The Flop Heard ‘Round the League
The NBA playoffs have been thrilling, but some fans are getting a little tired of the flopping going on. dirkfansince1998 had a humorous take on the league’s new anti-flopping rules:
“Would be hilarious if they actually enforce the rules in the finals. Technical foul, freethrow and a $2000 fine.”
Apparently, the league has been cracking down on flopping, but it’s not always effective. HoosierDaddyKid shared some interesting stats on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance against the Spurs:
“Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this season: 31.1 PPG in the regular season 24.3 PPG in the Conference Finals The biggest scoring falloff by an MVP guard from the regular season to the Conference Finals EVER.”
Coaching Conundrums
The Mavs are still searching for their next head coach, and SwisherPrice shared their thoughts on the latest candidate, Sweeney:
“I’m not upset about Sweeney…I didn’t want him here compared to everyone else. I want someone completely new with no prior ties to Kidd, Cuban, or even going further back to Donnie!”
DallasMaverick had a more cynical take:
“It’s a little like Trump vs. Kamala. Who did you dislike least?”
Knutsen offered a more nuanced view:
“I see and understand you’re point - but for sure hope that wasn’t the reason we didn’t hire him. Because considering all circumstances he would have been by far the best option available.”
Wembanyama Watch
The Spurs’ recent draft pick, Wembanyama, is already making waves around the league. Sam Amick (via HoosierDaddyKid):
“Now the Wembanyama effect to your question is I actually think it has a domino effect on the Giannis sweepstakes this summer, where there’s only so many guys in the league that can give you a puncher’s chance at slowing Wembanyama down.”
Playoff Recap
The playoffs have been full of thrilling moments, including a few Game 7s. HoosierDaddyKid noted:
“There will be at least FIVE Game 7s this postseason, tied for the most in a single postseason in NBA playoff history. It’s the most in one season since 2016.”
Channing Frye’s Hot Take
HoosierDaddyKid shared Channing Frye’s thoughts on Jalen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell:
“You know the difference between Jalen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell is Brunson is a true number one. I do not think Donovan Mitchell is a true number one take you to the NBA Finals person. Do I think he is a great player? Yes. I think he is a two also. You have to bring a one in there, a real one.”
Final Predictions
As the playoffs heat up, fans are making their predictions. HoosierDaddyKid joked:
“I hope it’s the Spurs. The finals will be a proverbial ‘Flopfest’ with NY and OKC. And JB and SGA will both compete for the MVF (Most Valuable Flopper) trophy.”
We’ll see what the future holds, but one thing’s for sure – it’s going to be a wild ride. My prediction? The Mavs will snag a top coach and make a deep run next season. Or, you know, we’ll just end up with another mediocre team and a bunch of what-ifs. Only time (and a few more floppy free throws) will tell!
