The Cavs’ Latest Choke Job
The Cleveland Cavaliers have done it again - blown a lead and left their fans fuming. cow was one of the many who took to the forum to express their frustration:
“The Cavs team is maddening and prevented me from saying, ‘suck it, JB’. Two terrible losses rolled up into one package.”
cow isn’t alone in their disappointment. The Cavs’ inability to close out games has been a recurring theme this season. As HoosierDaddyKid pointed out, the team’s coach, Kenny Atkinson, didn’t help matters with his questionable timeout management and defensive strategies:
“This loss is on Kenny Atkinson.. He didn’t burn any timeouts when Brunson went on one of his burners to get them back in the game. Then he didn’t change the coverage on Brunson, who hunted Harden on P&R’s with impunity.”
Wemby-mania Takes Over
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs are riding high on the back of their new superstar, Victor Wembanyama. The 7-foot-4 phenom is dominating the league and leaving fans in awe. cow couldn’t help but gush:
“Wemby is f’ing awesome.”
dirkfansince1998 had a more nuanced take on the Spurs’ chances, highlighting their struggles outside of Wemby’s playing time:
“Biggest concern for the Spurs are the non Wemby minutes. Was already an issue against the Wolves. Could be even worse in this series.”
The NBA Reacts
As Wemby continues to wow fans, the rest of the league is taking notice. Chicagojk shared some interesting insight into the Spurs’ star’s psyche:
“Wemby hates Chet. I was listening to a podcast a few weeks ago and windhorst was talking about this as he spent a lot of time with Wemby pre draft. Supposedly Wemby’s mom hates Chet too.”
F Gump offered a historical perspective on Wemby’s impact, drawing comparisons to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s early career:
“If you weren’t around to remember, the Wemby experience isn’t unique. We have seen something very similar before. This is more or less what it looked like when Kareem came into the NBA.”
Roster Construction in the Wemby Era
As teams struggle to cope with Wemby’s dominance, dirkfansince1998 wondered aloud about the implications for roster construction:
“Will Wemby impact roster construction in the same way that Shaq did in the late 90s/early 00s?”
DallasMaverick argued that versatility will be key for teams looking to counter Wemby’s unique skillset:
“Versatility. Gafford and Lively and ?? My point is that teams need versatility to counter a variety of opponents’ styles and strengths.”
The Blazers’ Bizarre Owner
In other news, the Portland Trail Blazers’ owner has been making waves with some… interesting comments. HoosierDaddyKid shared a post that had us scratching our heads:
“I don’t. Their fans are overconfident and obnoxious. If it took another 53 years for them to win a title, it’s alright by me.”
We’ll leave that one alone.
Spurs vs. Thunder
Lastly, the Spurs’ series against the Oklahoma City Thunder has been intense, with meistermatze expressing their disdain for the Thunder’s, ahem, creative approach to defense:
“I felt so dirty rooting for the Spurs, but I hate the always-fouling Thunder with a burning passion.”
The Spurs ultimately took the win, but not before windjc pointed out that Wemby could have easily dominated even further:
“Wemby could have scored every possession if he was dedicated to going in front the rim. Look at the last few possessions. It was soooo easy.”
As the NBA playoffs heat up, one thing’s for sure - Wemby-mania is here to stay. Buckle up, folks!
