MavsBoard’s Wildest Debate: 3-Point Dunk Rule

The MavsBoard community is always bringing the heat, but this week’s debate on a hypothetical 3-Point Dunk rule took it to a whole new level. We’re talking dunks, three-pointers, and some seriously creative (and ridiculous) ideas. Let’s get to the top takes.

Honorable Mention:

cow suggested making the hoop a little smaller to reduce 3PT percentages. It’s not a bad idea, but it’s not exactly a 3-Point Dunk rule either.

“Reducing the diameter of the hoop by an inch (give or take) might accomplish what you are looking for without altering rules or the dimensions of the court layout..”

meistermatze brought up a valid point about all-time stats making no sense with a new rule. But let’s be real, it’s not like we’re changing the game tomorrow.

“I like it. The only thing I don‘t like is that all-time-stats will make no sense anymore. Also, never gonna happen but the idea itself would improve todays game for sure.”

#4:

DallasMaverick wants to take it back to the good old days – disallowing any way of scoring except dunks and free throws. That’s one way to get back to basketball’s roots.

“Disallow any way of scoring except dunks and free throws.”

RasheedsBigWhiteSpot thinks Michael Finley’s cartwheel dunks should count for 4 points. Now that’s a fun idea.

“While we’re at I think Michael Finley cartwheel dunks should court for 4 points”

myconsumerclub took it to the extreme – bouncing the ball off the scoreboard to hit a shot should instantly win the game. We’re not saying that’s a good idea, but it’s… creative.

“bouncing the ball off of the scoreboard to hit a shot should be like the game is over and your team wins instantly.”

And the hottest take goes to speedkilz88 for suggesting we just get rid of 3PT shots altogether. Because, you know, that’s exactly what the game needs – no more Steph Curry.

“End all 3 pt shots. Everything is once again only 2 pts. Problem solved.”

loki even chimed in with a suggestion to inflate the ball a little more for good measure. Because why not?

“You could inflate the ball a little more for good measure.”

There you have it – MavsBoard’s wildest debate on the 3-Point Dunk rule. We’ll stick with the classic game for now, but it’s always fun to imagine what could be. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll see a variation of these rules in a summer league game or something. Stranger things have happened, right?
